Critical level statistics of a quantum Hall system with Dirichlet boundary conditions

چکیده
We investigate numerically the influence of Dirichlet boundary conditions on the nearest neighbor level spacing distribution P (s) of a two-dimensional disordered tightbinding model in the presence of a strong perpendicular magnetic field. From the calculation of the second moment of P (s) it is shown that for Dirichlet boundary conditions, due to the presence of edge states, the position of the critical energy shifts with increasing system size to the location of the critical energy for periodic boundary conditions. An extrapolation to infinite system size results in different critical (scale independent) P (s) distributions for periodic and Dirichlet boundary conditions.

A Simple and Systematic Approach for Implementing Boundary Conditions in the Differential Quadrature Free and Forced Vibration Analysis of Beams and Rectangular Plates
This paper presents a simple and systematic way for imposing boundary conditions in the differential quadrature free and forced vibration analysis of beams and rectangular plates. First, the Dirichlet- and Neumann-type boundary conditions of the beam (or plate) are expressed as differential quadrature analog equations at the grid points on or near the boundaries. Then, similar to CBCGE (direct ...
متن کاملInfluence of boundary conditions on level statistics and eigenstates at the metal insulator transition
We investigate the influence of the boundary conditions on the scale invariant critical level statistics at the metal insulator transition of disordered three-dimensional orthogonal and two-dimensional unitary and symplectic tight-binding models. The distribution of the spacings between consecutive eigenvalues is calculated numerically and shown to be different for periodic and Dirichlet bounda...
متن کاملExact solution of a massless scalar field with a relevant boundary interaction
We solve exactly the “boundary sine-Gordon” system of a massless scalar field φ with a cosβφ/2 potential at a boundary. This model has appeared in several contexts, including tunneling between quantum-Hall edge states and in dissipative quantum mechanics. For β < 8π, this system exhibits a boundary renormalization-group flow from Neumann to Dirichlet boundary conditions. By taking the massless ...

In recent years, semiconductor nanostructures have become the model systems of choice for investigation of electrical conduction on short length scales. Quantum transport is studied in a two dimensional electron gas because of the combination of a large Fermi wavelength and large mean free path. In the present work, a numerical method is implemented in order to contribute to the understanding ...

The paper presents the semi-numerical solution for the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) viscous flow due to a stretching sheet caused by boundary layer of an incompressible viscous flow. The governing partial differential equations of momentum equations are reduced into a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (NODE) by using a classical similarity transformation along with appropriate boundary cond...
